In 2016, after three years’ tenure, Sam Hinkie resigned from his position as General Manager of the Philadelphia 76ers with a 13-page letter. A wondrous, esoteric, absurdly inflated document, that letter should inspire us all.

We do not question the circumstances of this resignation—neither the conjuncture nor the specific facts. At the Resignation Department, we only celebrate its formal intensity, its erupting enigma, its animation of resignation as method. We emphatically do NOT posit resignation as a matter of liberatory potential. To do so would misapprehend what resignation has to offer.
